Bodrum is a district and a harbor town in Muğla, in the southwestern Aegean Region of Turkey. The city was called Halicarnassus of Caria in ancient times and was famous for housing the Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The history of Bodrum, known as Halicarnassus or Halicarnassos goes back to the 13th century BC. Excavations reveal the 5000-year-old history of Bodrum. Many civilizations found their home here.
The name Bodrum derives from Petronium, named from the Hospitaller Castle of St. Peter.
Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights Hospitaller in the early 15th century, overlooks the harbor and the marina. The castle houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, displaying the underwater archaeology treasures.
ITINERARY OF THE TOUR

We will start our tour with
Bodrum Castle, known as the Castle of St. Peter, is located high on a rocky peninsula on the site of the original Carian settlement. St Peter’s Castle, set in the harbor with five imposing towers and seven gates. The castle is home to the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. You will visit its many fascinating displays such as the dungeon, Snake Tower, German, English, French towers.
Museum of Underwater Archaeology: You will see the World’s oldest known shipwrecks Uluburun, a hall of recovered glassware, and the Carian Princess exhibition which evokes the last days of the ancient greatness of Halicarnassus. Glass Wreck Hall, Late Bronze Age Shipwrecks, The Carian Princess Hall and the amphoras. In ancient times amphoras were used for transporting and storing Olive Oil and wine
Mausoleum: Explore the site of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Mausoleum was built by Artemisia, the sister and the wife of King Mausolos, B.C. 355. The mausoleum was destroyed in an earthquake and the remains were used in the construction of the Halicarnassus Castle.
Windmills: One of the best places to take pictures is Bodrum. Made of stone and lined with wooden planks windmills were used from the 18th century until the 70s by indigenous people of the region. They’re being renovated as a tourist place on the hill. You will also have a chance to see Greek island kos and Black İsland and a perfect picturesque view from the top of the hill.
Myndos Gate: Myndos Gate is one of the two entrances of ancient Halicarnassus. It is the only surviving gate that was part of the town’s wall. Myndos Gate walls 7km long and built by King Mausolus in the 4th century.
Antique Theatre: Next stop will be the Ancient Theater of Halicarnassos, dated back to the 4th century BC with 5.000 capacity. You will have some free time for shopping then drive back to Bodrum harbor.
At the end of the tour around 16:30, we will transfer you to the hotel. You will be in your hotel approximately at 17:00.
